In the back, where the highest forces are acting in downhill skiing, the Vipec 12 stays rigid, similar to an alpine binding.

In turning, the power transmission of conventional pin bindings is interrupted by the heel unit’s rotating movements for the lateral release.

Lateral release in front and stable heel unit in back

The lateral release occurs in the front where the lateral forces are acting during a fall. The boot is freed immediately.

In the other pin bindings, the boot is released in the back via a rotating heel unit. The boot is not released until it pushes open the clamping mechanism in the front.

Long dynamic path and maximum tension

No unwelcome surprises

Releasing only if necessary

The combination of the long dynamic path of 13 mm with consistent high tension prevents an unwanted release.

The acting forces are absorbed over the long path via the high tension until the preset releasing force is reached. If the effect of the force decreases within the 13 mm path, the binding is reset to the starting position.

In other pin bindings, the tension is not consistently high or the dynamic path is shorter, resulting in an unwanted release or reduced power transmission

Switching from downhill to uphill mode and vice versa is very simple with a pole without having to step out of the binding. The three ergonomically synchronized walk mode levels can also be changed in no time with a pole.

Minimizing the risk of injury

In skiing, significant forces are acting on material and body. The prompt release based on the preset values, a defined release, and the prevention of unwanted releases help to reduce injuries, such as torn ligaments and broken bones as well as damage to the material, to a minimum.

The only pin binding with front lateral release, adjustable DIN value

When a skier falls, the lateral forces will act in front where the ski is controlled. Vipec 12 is the only pin binding with lateral release via the front unit similar to Alpine bindings. Boot is freed immediately upon release.

Long dynamic travel of 13 mm of prevents from unwanted releases

The acting forces may decrease, particularly when skiing downhill in deep snow, to a point where it is no longer necessary for the binding to release. In this case, the Vipec 12 will stop the process of releasing. It will only release when necessary.

 

When the forces requiring a release are acting, the carriage will slide sideways. The lever with the pin will not flip down until a dynamic travel of 13 mm has been completed. If the forces should decrease within these 13 mm, the carriage is reset to the starting position to prevent an unwanted release.

In conventional pin bindings the boot is released in the back via a rotating heel unit. The boot is not released unless the clamping mechanism in the front is pushed open.

Frontal release

 The frontal safety release is triggered by the lateral swiveling of the heel pin units located in the heel housing. The heel pin units slide over the restraining wedges of the heel insert in the boot to release it.

The boot is then tilted forward via the front pins, pushing the Easy Switch Toe downward. This will also open the front of the system and release the boot

Lowest weight pin binding with defined release – 490 grams

The stable heel unit of the Vipec 12 with active length compensation allows a defined release and prevents unwanted releases. In the turns the heel unit moves back and forth, depending on the deflection of the ski, and keeps the boot from getting jammed in the binding.

Conventional pin bindings are provided with a rotating heel unit for lateral release. High vertical forces during the turns therefore lead to continuous rotational movements.

In bindings without length compensation the boot is clamped in and, depending on the situation, it will either not release or not according to the preset release values. On the other hand, the continuous rotational movements combined with length compensation will cause unwanted releases.

Stability and Safety with an exclusive emergency release feature

Holding instead of clamping. The boot is held in the front unit between two pins. Because the heel moves freely in uphill mode, high lateral forces are acting on the front unit.

To prevent an unwanted lateral release, the carriage is secured, but not blocked, by high friction in the center when the binding is switched to uphill mode. In an emergency the system will release.

Easy step-in and step-out

The boot is placed in the step-in position by means of guiding aids, where the pins can be properly engaged in the inserts via a locking mechanism.

With a ski pole, the front lever can be conveniently set to the step-in position (bottom).The toe pin units will open and release the boot.

Comfortably switch mode downhill / uphill

With a ski pole, the front lever and the back lever it is very easy to switch between downhill and uphill mode.

Confortabely adapt to the slope angle 2°/9°/13°

Adapting the walk mode to the slope angle is a breeze. The three optimally synchronized walk mode levels can be set in no time. The walk mode levels can be changed at any time and very easily with a ski pole.

  • The uphill mode (back lever in uphill mode) also corresponds to the first walk model level (2°).

Crampons TRAXION with adjustable penetration depth

All it takes is two clicks to attach the Diamir Traxion crampon to the front housing. With the rotatable adapter the space between the blade and the bottom of the boot can be perceptibly reduced at every walk mode level to adjust the penetration depth according to individual and specific needs and allowing a deep bite at all three walk mode levels. Clearly a significant benefit in terms of safety and comfort – and what’s more: individually adjustable.

Powerful downhill

Similar to Alpine bindings, the lateral release in the front and the frontal release in the back of the Safety Pin System have separate mechanisms and function independently. With this technical exclusivity of the pin systems it is possible to ensure optimal traction, especially in the heel area, which is so important for power transmission.

The only pin binding with a stable, non-rotating heel unit

 In downhill skiing, the higher forces are transmitted in the back. Similar to Alpine bindings, the force acting vertically in the turns is transmitted to a stable heel unit.

This prevents a loss of power or unwanted releases caused by rotational movements of the heel unit as in conventional pin bindings. The ski always remains on track.

Direct power transmission in front

In front, the force acting vertically in the turns is transmitted directly to the stable front unit. The integrated lateral release will not cause a loss of power. The system will not move laterally unless the forces requiring a release are acting.

Due to the wider space between the mounting screws and the larger support surface for the front housing, better support is also provided for the system in the front area.

Natural deflection of skis

In the turns, the ski will bend depending on speed and radius. As a result, the distance between the front and the heel units will decrease. In bindings without length compensation the boot is clamped in. The ski will tighten below the binding.

In the Vipec 12, on the other hand, the heel unit slides back and forth, depending on the deflection of the ski. Even below the binding the ski is able to bend naturally and fully use all of its characteristics.
